This DCist hasn’t been to the new Regal Cinema 14 multiplex in Gallery Place yet. But from what we’ve seen of its location (adjacent to the MCI Arena and the new Clyde’s), the theater complex is sure to bring in a lot of traffic because of its metrorail accessibility and the retail, dining and entertainment options immediately surrounding it. (The Washington Business Journal reported back on Nov. 12 that Lucky Strike Entertainment will lease a nearby space in the Gallery Place retail and entertainment complex for a bowling alley.)
Ambivalent Images went there and took some photos (including this one here), noting that the new theater could take away business from the other large mainstream multiplex near downtown, the Georgetown Loews theater on the K Street near Wisconsin Avenue. DCist thinks that makes sense. (We also think that the Union Station movie theaters, already lacking in amenities, will see a downturn in business.)
Though the heart of Georgetown on M Street is just a five minute walk from the Loews, it is uphill. Its non-metrorail accessible location beneath the Whitehurst Freeway is sort of dingy and the only options immediately surrounding the theater are Chadwick’s, or the assortment of bars at the Georgetown Harbour development.
Have you been to the new theater?
