With the holiday season upon us, DCist is bracing for the usual phalanx of seasonal activities. There’s a number of events around the mall of interest.
Now that we’ve answered all your questions about the National Christmas Tree, you can head down to the Ellipse tonight to see it lit. To the right is a photo of Lynn Cheney putting the finishing touches on it last week.
If the idea of a family-friendly Pagent of Peace isn’t exactly your bag, there’s always Santarchy, which DC Metroblogging says will come to D.C. Dec. 4 this year.
The White House holiday page features videos of some of your favorite Bush administration officials reading holiday-related children’s books. They even got OMB Director Josh Bolten to read “It’s Hanukkah,” and former Education Secretary Rod Paige reads “The Grinch.”
Finally, in addition to the always-popular ice skating in the National Sculpture Garden, the Smithsonian is showing “Santa vs. The Snowman” at the IMAX theater in the National Museum of Natural History. Unfortunately, the IMAX version of “The Polar Express” isn’t showing in D.C., although it’s been doing very well elsewhere. Also at the Smithsonian, their “Young Benefactors” organization is holding a “Jolly Holiday” bash next Friday, which features an open bar and an evening of entertainment for $45.
Finally, Union Station is celebrating a “Norwegian Christmas” with lots of events we’ll be posting about in a bit. What holiday events are you looking forward to?
