For many people, the presidential election was a choice between sticking with an administration during times of trouble or getting rid of the regime that got us into the messes in the first place. Well, America must be feeling lucky today, because as the Cabinet continues to pass through the revolving door of appointment and unemployment, it’s clear that we got to have both. DCers will be burdened with having to remember a host of new names and faces next year. DCist breaks down the comings and goings from a busy week at the White House.

At Health and Human Services, Secretary Tommy Thompson offered both his resignation and some dire warnings: “For the life of me, I cannot understand why the terrorists have not attacked our food supply because it is so easy to do,” said Thompson, perhaps making those assembled wonder if maybe there should be a cabinet member who perhaps had the ear of the President on a matter such as this. Thompson went on to add: “We are importing a lot of food from the Middle East, and it would be easy to tamper with that.” Umm, seriously Tommy, you are kind of freaking us out, here. Thompson will likely be replaced by one of President Bush’s unlimited supply of McClellans, in this case, press secretary Scott’s brother Mark.

If you’re scared that Washington, D.C., is going to be left unprotected from the coming waves of terrorist food, well, never fear. You can always wrap yourself in the warm, safe blanket of 9-11 symbolism! NYPD Commissioner Bernard Kerik, who presided over the New York police force at the time of the terrorist attacks, has been selected to replace the outgoing Tom Ridge. During the election, Kerik was a supporter of Bush, and was quoted as saying that “if you put Sen. (John) Kerry in the White House, I think you are going to see” additional terror attacks “happen.” Well, it’ll be Kerik, not Kerry, on the hook now.
