Happy Friday, everybody. The weather today will be more of what we’ve seen this week: partly cloudy, highs in the 40s. The photo above shows promotional materials for the Washington Nationals in a display case at Buffalo Billiards, where baseball supporters held a pep rally last week. We’ve posted a few photos from our happy hour last night.
Yeah, More Baseball: The Post reports today that Baseball President Robert A. DuPuy has rejected a request for more time from D.C. Council President Linda Cropp, and shut down promotional activities by the Washington Nationals. They’ve even phoned Northern Virginia to make plans should the deal fall though. Meanwhile, the W. Times reports the city is “flooded” with funding options. Our contributor DCeiver has some choice words for the people who want us to “Drop Cropp” for torpedoing the deal. A handy Post infographic informs us they built a stadium in San Francisco with 3% public financing. 3%!
Old Convention Center Blows Up: Well, at least it will tomorrow at 7:30 a.m.. “It is really very little explosion — it’s a lot of gravity,” quips the demolition company. The Post article says spectators might have trouble getting a good view, but says the implosion will be carried on “local and national” television.
Metro, Metro, Metro: Yesterday morning’s free commute thanks to ING goes well, WMATA is planning to open two new stations tomorrow, and the AP reports most crime on Metro is down – except for robberies, which are up 25%. Metro also plans to hire some consultants to evaluate their training and operations.
Hunters Brooke Arson Update: Police seem to be making progress in the massive suburban Maryland arson: the AP reports they’ve made one arrest, and executed a search warrant in the area. WUSA9 has a picture of the man arrested.
