CNN announced this morning that they’ve parted ways with the button down, bow-tied host Tucker Carlson and his show “Crossfire“.
There are conflicting reports over who left who first, and with any break up, each side insists they left first. The NY Times reports CNN ditching the host, and the Post’s Howie Kurtz says Carlson already had one foot out the door.
You shrewd, media savvy readers out there are no doubt pondering the connection between the cancelling of “Crossfire” and Jon Stewart’s recent outburst against Tucker Carlson on that program. Could they possibly be related? Yes, smarty pants, they are!
The NY Times quotes the new president of CNN, Jonathan Klein, on the reasons for leveling the boorish half-hour long shouting match:
Mr. Klein specifically cited the criticism that the comedian Jon Stewart leveled at “Crossfire” when he was a guest on the program during the presidential campaign. Mr. Stewart said that ranting partisan political shows on cable were “hurting America.”
Mr. Klein said last night, “I agree wholeheartedly with Jon Stewart’s overall premise.”
Burn! DCist didn’t think we could love Jon Stewart anymore then we already do, but we were wrong. Our hearts are bursting. Thanks for making cable news slightly less ugly, Jon!
Fortunately, the few Tucker Carlson fans out there won’t have to go totally without him. Tucker Carlson “Unfiltered,” his other talk show, produced by local PBS station WETA, will still air on Friday’s at 8:30 p.m.
Luckily, our DCist corespondent was able to witness the entire (now infamous) Stewart/Carlson exchange.
On another note, “Crossfire” is taped nearby at the George Washington University News Center. DCist wonders what happens over at GW now that the school is losing such a visiable program. What will alumni do during Colonials homecoming weekend?
