Inaugural Security to Be Very Tight: While it has been widely broadcast that inaugural security will be the tightest ever, the Post provides us with some more details as two what that means. Roadblocks and screening points will go up three blocks from the Pennsylvania Avenue parade route. Windows facing the parade route will be sealed, parked cars removed and snipers will be on rooftops.
And in related inaugural news, hotel workers may go on strike before the inauguration, the AP, via WJLA reports.
And those townies trying to get across town on metrorail, the Archives-Navy Memorial and Smithsonian stations will be closed. (But we wonder why Federal Triangle would be open as that is closer to the parade route than Smithsonian …)
Bench Seating Coming to Metrorail? WMATA’s board is pushing the transit agency to study the possibility of removing seats from metrorail cars to increase capacity in the system, the Post reports. With this new push for added space and new rail cars supposed to be introduced to the system in 2006 or 2007, there is now the distinct possibility that Washington will see New York-style bench seating in metrorail cars, meaning that commuters will be standing more than sitting. How do you feel about that possibility?
