It’s the first snow fall of the season. The white fluffy stuff has been coming down since late morning, and it looks to be accumulating much quicker then earlier predictions. The “light dusting” we heard about on last night’s news has now turned into a projected snowfall of 1-2 inches, that will last well into the rush hour.
WJLA reports that the D.C. Department of Transportation and the Department of Public Works have trucks out on the roads, putting de-icer and salt down. Main roads, bridges and over passes will get the most attention, while those of us who live on side streets will be risking life and limb to make it back home safely.
As of now it seems to be slow going on most roads, judging from the crawl of cars along our Capitol Hill neighborhood. Live traffic cams will give you a better idea of what you’re up against for the afternoon commute. To brighten up your day, WMATA has been reporting a 20-minute delay on the Blue and Orange lines in the direction of Virginia. Lovely.
There is a winter weather advisory in effect until 6 p.m. tonight.
What say you, DCers? Is it a winter wonderland out there, or is the weather outside frightful?

UPDATE: D.C. public schools will close at 2:15 p.m. today, a variety of other area schools will close early as well. There are also transit delays.
