Anthrax Update: After a brief anthrax scare yesterday, the Post now reports “analysis of more than 70 samples subsequently taken from filters, surfaces and machines at both mailrooms showed no trace of anthrax bacteria, living or dead.” Officials are investigating the possibility that an earlier, positive, test was contaminated.
Ramsey Targets Dream Nightclub: After recommending the city revoke the liquor license at Club U, where a series of crimes including murder had occurred, Police Chief Charles H. Ramsey is drawing attention to the Dream nightclub in Northeast. One problem: people seem to like the club so much the mayor himself hosted a party there last week:
Many residents, including neighborhood leaders, said Dream has helped begin the transformation of a violent area into a more stable one. Dream took over a four-story building that once housed a film processing plant. Before the club arrived in 2001, the 1300 block on Okie Street NE in the New York Avenue corridor was known as a haven for drug addicts and prostitutes …
