Alston Killer Admits to Crime: A month after the murder of Wanda Alston, an aide to D.C. Mayor Anthony Williams for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues, a District resident admitted to killing her while high. The Post is reporting today that William Martin Parrott Jr. pleaded guilty to second-degree murder yesterday, and will be sentenced on July 29. He faces up to 40 years in prison.
Office Park to Become a Downtown: Developers and civic leaders are pushing to allow Tysons Corner to expand beyond existing limits, allowing the current office park to become a downtown area to looking something more like Chicago, the Post reports. While debates continue as to the area’s growth and its impact on local traffic, planners envision Tysons Corner — which already serves as a regional center — to develop into something more urban than suburban.
New Carpet Coming to Metro: Recognizing that metrorail cars are aging, WMATA officials agreed yesterday to spend $1.5 million to replace the signature orange carpeting in 200 train cars, reports WJLA. Also, WMATA’s board voted to buy more diesel and hybrid buses instead of natural gas vehicles, the Post reports.
