WMATA Plans Extra Rail Service for Saturday. There will be extra trains available before and after Saturday’s Wizards and Nationals games, WMATA has announced. Expect crowding in the evening because the Nats play at 7:05 p.m., with the Wizards playing at the MCI Center an hour later.
And for the first time, WMATA will run shuttle buses from RFK (at Lot. No. 3) to Union Station following a Nats game … but only as a test, the Post says. The goal is to get people to the Red Line, as to avoid a transfer at Metro Center, which is something DCist suggested a while back when we analyzed the transportation logistics for RFK Stadium and the proposed site for the new Nationals stadium on South Capitol Street.
Also for This Weekend. There will be single-tracking in a number of locations across the metrorail system.
From WMATA:
Orange Line – On Saturday, May 14, from opening (7 a.m.) to 2 p.m., and Sunday, May 15, from opening (7 a.m.) to 11 a.m., trains will share one track between East Falls Church and West Falls Church-VT/UVA.
Green Line – On Saturday, May 14, from opening (7 a.m.) to 3 p.m., trains will share one track between Greenbelt and College Park-U of Md.
Red Line – On Saturday, May 14, from opening (7 a.m.) to 4 p.m., trains will share one track between Shady Grove and Twinbrook.
Escalator Rejoice. Yes, there are escalators out of service across the system, but when certain escalators are under major rehabilitation for a few months, there can be major celebration. Such has been the case at Union Station recently, where the Massachusetts Avenue escalators were out of service for months. Senate staffers, or anyone else who works around North Capitol Street can now avoid trudging up and down without bumping into two-way traffic.
Which long-term escalator outages have been frustrating you as of late?
