So the U.S. Senate won’t be going nuclear after all that huffing and puffing. (At least not anytime soon, but …) All things considered, that’s probably for the best. The country witnessed how even a simple evacuation two weeks ago could be so magnificently botched — so just imagine what the fallout from the nuclear strike would have looked like.

Another Airspace Violation?: Speaking of potential evacuations … Another daring pilot either did his patriotic duty in testing the District’s air defense systems or simply lost his maps — either way, F-16s were once again scrambled last night in response to a Cessna’s incursion into Washington’s restricted airspace, reports WTOP. The fighter jets fired flares at the intruder and forced its landing in Gaithersburg. No word on motives, mistakes, or whether or not the direct FAA line to the District government was plugged in this time.

Pozell received a full police funeral, including an 18-gun salute, and was buried at Oak Hill Cemetary, where he worked during the day as a superintendent. Police Chief Charles Ramsey announced that Pozell’s badge number was to be retired.
