DCist readers might be surprised to know that coming up with catchy headlines for the Morning Roundup is no walk in the park. They have to be timely, witty, incisive, and well-worded. Today is just not one of those days. There’s just something about the rain and grey skies that doesn’t bode well for the creative spirit.
The picture above comes via furcafe. How it ties into the news or theme of the day this DCist couldn’t say, but it’s still a cool shot.
Private Financing Plan In Jeopardy: City Council Chairwoman Linda Cropp has all but thrown in the towel on the possibility of privately-financing half of the cost a new stadium set to be built for the Washington Nationals, reports WTOP. Private financing was one of the conditions Cropp and other members of the Council imposed upon D.C. Mayor Anthony Williams last December, but the proposals submitted to cover half the cost of the $400-500 million stadium attracted little support in recent hearings.
A Pedestrian Tunnel For Metro?: WMATA officials have discussed building a pedestrian tunnel between the Metro Center and Gallery Place stations to ease congestion from passangers transferring from one line to another, notes WJLA. The idea, hatched last summer, would serve up to 11,750 people a day, and would be accesible free of charge.
Is that the Smell of Campaign Season?: Why yes it is, according to the Examiner. Called “silly season,” the 15 months from now until the D.C. Democratic primary next September are best described as such:
It’s that time before an election when legislation once resisted is suddenly embraced. It’s the moment when alliances form among councilmembers never known as buddies. It’s the stage when speeches get longer and louder.
If anything, this will be interesting, hopefully amusing.
