The 30th Anniversary Capital Pride is this weekend with a parade kicking off at 6 p.m. tonight at Dupont Circle and a street festival tomorrow. Coinciding with the large celebration this weekend was the 12th annual D.C. Dyke March, which was this afternoon at 1 p.m. This week’s Metroweekly magazine has lots more information about Capital Pride, including a profile of “D.C.’s own West Hollywood Porn Star” Tag Adams, who is participating in the parade and tomorrow’s street festival.

The street festival tomorrow is on Pennsylvania Avenue between 4th and 7th streets northwest. The planners have lined up a very impressive list of performers at their main stage tomorrow, including singer Ella Fitzgerald, the cast of Mamma Mia, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, D.C., and dance music star Amber (Remember “This is Your Night” and “Sexual”?). Amid all the fun the weekend is also a recognition of the struggle by gay men and lesbians for full and equal rights. Nine people have been named Capital Pride Heroes this year “for their extraordinary efforts to bring full equality to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities.” This year’s festival is held in the memory of Wanda Alston, the advocate for D.C.’s GLBT community who died earlier this year.

If you attend any of the events and take photos, remember to submit them to DCist photos!
