Violence in Ethiopia Sparks Protest: After a contentious election on May 15, Ethiopia’s ruling party has become increasingly authoritarian, ordering a ban on public protests, placing opposition leaders under house arrest, and earlier in June troops open fire on a group demonstrators. The unrest in the African democracy has been closely followed by D.C.’s Ethiopian community, some of whom participated in a demonstration at the State Department that was covered by the Post.
