Bitten by a Bat? After an increase in rabid bats discovered in D.C., the Department of Health has issued a warning to watch out, the W.Times reports. DCist isn’t really sure how you can avoid rabid bats, but if you do happen to come across one it’s probably best to not taunt them or examine their teeth. Warmer weather brings out greater bat activity!
From the W.Times:
Those who think they might have been bitten by a bat should wash the wound and immediately seek medical attention. A vaccine exists, but the disease is typically deadly if left untreated.
City, Club Owners Targeted in Suit: The mother whose son was fatally stabbed at Club U this past winter is suing the club owners and the District for having the Reeves Center (the D.C. municipal center where the troubled Club U had operated) “inadequately staffed and supervised,” the Examiner reports.
Roll Call at 50: DCist normally does not touch national politics, and if we do, it’s by accident and/or with a 10-foot pole. But today is a special day on Capitol Hill. Roll Call, the very distinguished Newspaper of Capitol Hill (and this DCist’s employer), celebrates its half century mark with a special section. And in it are two articles of local interest, one a great feature on the Tune Inn, the Capitol Hill dive bar that is also celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and (in shameless self-promotion) a look by yours truly on how the Congressional campus has developed over the past 50 years. Delays on the Red Line? While the Post noted that the Red Line is back on track this morning after the discovery of a body on the tracks near Silver Spring, a Dipdewdog posted this photo (at left) in DCist Photos of a WMATA announcment indicating there were nearly 36-hour delays on the Red Line in the direction of Glenmont. Ouch.
