Chris Klein was on the sidelines, being interviewed by former Womens’ National Team standout Brandi Chastain, when he was asked a question that surely irked those DC United fans who had tuned in to watch them play Klein’s Kansas City Wizards. Chastain wondered what Klein thought about Kansas City notching their first win against DC in Washington since the inaugural MLS season. On its face, this was a newsworthy question. The irksome part was, as Klein himself offered in response, there were still seven minutes left in regulation.

Of course, perhaps Chastain wasn’t asking an ill-timed question as much as she was using her awesome powers of clairvoyance. Only twenty minutes before, Chastain, commenting on what a relatively easy time the two defenses had had during the game, predicted that the first offensive goal would go to the first team who could get their defensive counterpart turned around and running toward their own net. Unfortunately for DC, in the 77th minute, that’s precisely what happened. Sasha Victorine, counterattacking swiftly after obtaining a Brian Carroll misplay, found nothing but open space in front of the goal as defender Bobby Boswell pushed him over to his left, perhaps doubting the midfielder’s left foot. Victorine, with a great look at the whole net, made Boswell pay, pushing his shot past Nick Rimando inside the right post.
