For your buying pleasure this week, we have tickets recently on sale, tickets going on sale in the next few days, or just tickets that, in general, you need to be getting on.
>> Who doesn’t know of Chuck Brown, the godfather of D.C. go-go? You know him, you love him, and now you can party down with him at his official birthday bash at the 9:30 Club on August 27. Tickets are just $25; we think that’s a steal to celebrate with Mr. Brown & friends. Get your tickets here.
>> Brendan Benson‘s album, “The Alternative to Love,” has been making heavy rotation on our iPods this summer. The Detroit singer-songwriter sure knows how to turn a hook and jangle his guitar. He’ll be at the Black Cat September 29, and you can purchase tickets here for $12.
>> M.I.A. amazed the crowds at the 9:30 Club during her last show with LCD Soundsystem. Her swaggering political lyrics and infectious melodies will get any audience rocking. She’s back September 21. We wouldn’t be surprised if these tickets go fast, so grab ’em while you can.
>> We always love us some John Hiatt – his warm, spirited country-rock and perfectly good guitar playing always come across well live. He’ll be at the 9:30 Club September 4 with Shawn Colvin, and tickets’ll run you $35.
>> If you want some spiritual enlightenment for the tune of $200-400 (not to mention a hefty “convenience” charge of $20.50), head on over here to purchase tickets to “Mind and Life XIII with the Dalai Lama,” at DAR. Dates and times have yet to be announced, but he will also be at the MCI Center November 13 for $20-100.
>> Sensitive, lo-fi folkie Sufjan Stevens (who plans to record an album for every state; he’s got Michigan and Illinois covered so far; where’s D.C.’s fair share, Sufjan? The district is just ripe with material for some tunes) hits the 9:30 Club come September 27. Tickets are just $15.
