Mirant Plant to Re-Open: The Mirant Corporation power plant in Alexandria may re-open in a partial capacity, the Post reports. The facility has dormant since the owners voluntarily closed the facility after a study showed the plant could be emitting illegal levels of pollution. Alexandria officials, who have been trying to close the plant for a year, were upset yesterday at the news.
Hechts On the Way Out: As part of the merger between the companies that own Hechts and the Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s stores, a new Hechts under construction in Chevy Chase, Md. will open as a Bloomingdale’s, NBC4 reports. As part of the deal, the Hechts headquarters in Arlington will be slowly closed in the next year.
