Monday: We love to start our weeks with a bang. Go have dinner in Little Ethiopia, then make your way to DC9 for some good old-fashioned punk with The Vibrators, The Screws, and Corrupted Youth. Bang! $8.
Tuesday: Presumably, at some point, Sufjan Stevens is going to finish serenading the Rust Belt and start penning tributes to the Mid-Atlantic. And what we all want to know is, is he going give the District some love? Start the lobbying now (we recommend yelling at him between songs), when he plays a sold-out show at the 9:30 Club. See sketchy street scalpers for tickets.
There’s also this White Stripes show, featuring The Shins, at the Merriweather Post Pavilion. We soured a bit on Jack White somewhere around Cold Mountain, but have come around again since he beat up that guy from the Von Bondies, who totally had it coming. Also, The Shins are working on their third album, so expect to hear some new material. Tix are still available. $25-40.
And, hey, Los Lobos are playing an acoustic set at the Birchmere. But it’s sold out, too.
Wednesday: To be honest, we kind of liked the Jesus and Mary Chain version of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, but a line-up and label change later, the new blues slash country version of the band has been getting some decent press. Judge for yourself at 9:30 (with Mark Gardener of Ride). $15. You can also do as DCist Kyle does, which we always recommend, and see Gardener before jetting for the Lemonheads at Black Cat. $17 advance; $20 day of.
Lastly, NoVa’s own Meredith Bragg and the Terminals, featuring members of Speedwell, play Velvet in support of their new album. The buzz is rising on the record, and this show is the first leg of a nationwide tour for the band.
