Good morning, D.C. This lovely shot of some Eastern Market gourds was posted to DCist photos by easement. We’d love to tell you that we’re in for the sort of brisk autumn weather that this photo evokes. But today’s going to be cloudy, and tomorrow’s going to be rainy. And, in even less cheerful news…

Behl’s Remains Found: The partially decomposed human remains found yesterday behind a Richmond farmhouse have been positively identified as those of missing VCU student and Vienna native Taylor Behl. Although they did not provide any specific details, police say that the investigation is progressing rapidly, and expressed confidence that it would be resolved. Investigators were led to the site by an ex-girlfriend of Ben Fawley, the man who may have seen Behl last, and who claims to have been briefly kidnapped on the night of her disappearance.

Maryland Racing Withers: The Post reports that representatives from Magna Entertainment Corp., which owns the state’s two largest racetracks, have outlined a proposal for maintaining the imperiled industry. Race days would be cut back in order to offer more competitive purses — particularly at the Pimlico racetrack, which would trim its race schedule from 60 days to 26. Skeptics see Magna’s actions as a ploy to win approval for slot machine gambling.

Odors Continue in NE: The strange and unpleasant smells that started last week have appeared once again. Officials say that they’ll keep looking for the cause, but for now they’re stumped (although they’re confident that it’s not a gas leak). Frankly, it’s gotten us kind of curious. Can anyone with firsthand experience tell us what the odor smells like? Or at least offer a wild theory about its origin?
