Good morning, Washington. This shot of the Key Bridge was taken by Flickr user easement, who also posted some neat infrared shots of the area in his photostream. If you live in Virginia and several towns in Maryland, today is election day! To find out your polling place check out the website of the Virginia Board of Elections or contact your local government.

Virginia Governors’ Race Neck and Neck: The gubernatorial race between Democrat Tim Kaine and Republican Jerry Kilgore has entered its final hours with no clear leader. Both candidates are campaigning hard and, the Post reports, bringing in big names for some last minute campaigning — Governor Mark Warner for the former, President George W. Bush for the latter. The lieutenant governor, attorney general, and all 100 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates are also up for grabs on today’s ballot.

Virginians Turning to Transit: In what officials have dubbed a “stunning” statistic, the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission reports ridership on the Virginia Railway Express, WMATA’s Metrorail, and eight bus systems increased by 3.3 million trips from just one year ago, the AP via the W. Times reports. The VRE system’s ridership grew the slowest because it is already operating near capacity, and officials expressed frustration with low and inconsistent funding from state government for expansion.
