The Washington Redskins doubled their Pro Bowlers from last year yesterday as wide receiver Santana Moss and tackle Chris Samuels were named to the NFC squad for this year’s game. However, for the second straight year none of the players on the Redskins defense, which is currently ranked eighth in the NFL, will be making the trip. It seems that the defense’s lack of sacks and turnovers from early in the year hurt them in the balloting, which is voted on by players, coaches and fans. Starting lineups for the game will be announced on January 7th, 2006.

Moss, tied for third in the NFL in receiving yards, is definitely the Redskin most deserving of representing his team in Hawaii. “It’s an honor, but something I didn’t really consider striving for,” Moss told the Post. Chris Cooley and Sheriff Gonna Getcha were named as first alternates and Marcus Washington, a Pro Bowler last year, and Sean Taylor were relegated to second alternate status. Should a player elected ahead of them get hurt or decline to participate, these deserving gentlemen will fill in for them.

But before we look ahead to the end of the season, there is still some work to do. Perhaps the ‘Skins “D” will use this as motivation on Saturday as they face off with the NY Giants, who have five Pro Bowlers on their squad, in the biggest game in FedEx Field history.
