There’s a lot of squabbling around here about who is the area’s best basketball team. But overlooked in the discussion of George Washington’s first appearance in the top ten since 1956, Georgetown’s win over then-top ranked and previously undefeated Duke, and Maryland’s … suspensions — is the fact that the Maryland women are quietly having arguably D.C.’s best season.

With an 88-77 home victory over Miami, the Terps moved to 20-2 on the year, 7-1 in the ACC. They were led on Wednesday by Shay Doron’s 26 points, and Laura Harper added 19. Maryland enjoyed a 54-34 rebounding advantage over Miami, and held the ‘Canes to 39 percent shooting.
Doron and Harper are two of four Terrapins averaging in double figures on the season. The Hurricanes held leading scorer Crystal Langhorne to just 10 points, but Langhorne’s career-high 34 keyed a 79-70 win at Wake Forest this past Sunday.
