Reviewing the week in DCist can’t go without mentioning what is now the news of the week — George Mason today toppled the nation’s best basketball team, UConn, 86-84 in a nail-biting overtime upset. The victory caps what has been a surprising rise through the NCAA ranks for George Mason, and with Georgetown out of the picture, gives the Washington region someone to cheer for.

This week we saw the Post’s newest conservative blogger rise and fall in rapid succession, we apologized for the District’s music fans at the Matt Pond PA show and reviewed a Florida-like electoral scandal at Georgetown University. We checked out The Go! Team at Black Cat, asked MLB to finally name a new owner for the Nats, discussed the small annoyances of riding the Metro and pondered Alfonso Soriano’s on-field hissy fit. We watched the last of the West Wing episodes, interviewed D.C. Council At Large candidate A. Scott Bolden, celebrated the one million “Taxation Without Representation” license plates and reviewed Brandon Morse’s art. We reported on a progress report of the District’s HIV/AIDS efforts, read up on our Metro history and introduced a new feature on local designers. We took a sneak peak at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, realized D.C. statehood isn’t terribly popular nationwide, said farewell to Nation and checked out The Joggers and Georgie James at Black Cat.
