Although Don Rockwell has been instrumental in spreading buzz about upscale restaurants among the Washington area’s foodie elite, Tyler Cowen’s Ethnic Dining Guide is often just as indispensable for cheap eats-oriented diners. Indeed, Cowen piqued our interest recently when he declared Hong Kong Palace “the premier Cantonese place around.” The usually terse Cowen then asked his readers, “Do you wish to explore the side of Chinese food that reminds you of southwestern France?” Um, yes, we do.
Hong Kong Palace, located in the Seven Corners Center just off Route 7, is another unlikely shopping center gem. We queried the friendly hostess for recommendations and opted to share three entrees — two daily off-menu specials, the French Style Steak and the sauteed snow pea leaves, and the House Special Chicken, which was listed under the charming heading “Delicate Dishes.”
