Fishbowl D.C. draws our attention today to MediaWeek’s annual look at the local media outlets, which came out on Monday. There are plenty of interesting notes in MediaWeek’s coverage, but the one that caught our eye (because Fishbowl D.C. pointed it out to us) relates to the circulation of a local sushi mogul’s pet paper.

Despite swallowing over $2 billion worth of cash infusions from the Reverend Sun Myung Moon’s Unification Church, the Washington Times continues to bleed readers. MediaWeek writes that the Times’ Monday-Friday circulation fell about two percent from last year to around 98,000 while Saturday readership held steady at 80,000 and circulation of the Times’ Sunday edition plummeted nine percent to about 39,500. (The Post’s circulation declined about four percent, to about 680,000 daily and 966,000 on Sunday).

Other interesting tidbits: NBC4’s newscasts are tops across all households, although WJLA, the ABC affiiliate, wins in some key demographics. WTOP is the top rated radio station in the Washington market, followed by WPGC (95.5 FM). Washington’s television market is the eighth largest in the nation, with 2.25 million television households, and the area is the sixth-largest radio market in the country.
