Next Monday could be a tough day for the country — immigrant advocates have been pushing a nationwide work boycott to convince Congress of the economic power of the country’s million of illegal immigrants. Some local Hispanic leaders have expressed their opposition to the boycott, though, concerned that it may cause a backlash against immigrants and their cause. There are an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States.

MLB Denies That Team Owner Named: MLB officials have denied that Commissioner Bud Selig has made any decision concerning which bidding group will become the new owners of the Nats, contradicting a WUSA 9 story yesterday that claimed that real estate mogul Ted Lerner had been selected, reports NBC 4. WUSA first posted the story, based on two anonymous sources, yesterday morning, and as of last night had not retracted their assertion that Lerner’s victory would be announced as early as Friday.

Federal Court Imposes Pollution Limits on Anacostia River: It may be hopelessly dirty, but know the federal government will have to do something about it. A federal appeals court yesterday ordered the Environmental Protection Agency to create daily limits on pollution for the Anacostia River, instead of relying on current seasonal limits, writes WJLA. And while environmentalists are happy with the decision, some District officials worry that it could force the city to upgrade its sewage system, which also handles storm runoff and can send millions of gallons of waste into the river during heavy rains.

Nats Attendance Down: Maybe the sheen of being back in the District have a 30-year absence is wearing off for the Nats. The Post is reporting today that attendance at Nats home games is down from last year. leaving the team 16th out of baseball’s 30 teams in drawing power. So far this season they have sold an average of 25,304 tickets a game, a decrease from last year’s 31,051. Season ticket sales are down also, dropping from last year’s 22,000 mark to 16,000 so far this year.
