Item: Dear readers, the time has come for this editor to move on. As of today, I’ll be stepping down as an Editor-in-Chief of DCist, and turning my set of reins over to Sommer Mathis, lately our Arts Editor, who’ll be running things alongside Martin. In August, I’ll be moving back to London, my home away from home, to pursue a PhD in Economic History. The goal is to make myself permanently unemployable, so I have time to focus fulltime on the blogosphere.

D.C. has been my home, off and on, for nearly five years, and I do not imagine this is the last she, or you all, have seen of me (for one thing, I’ll still be posting over the next month). In the meantime, however, I am very sad to be leaving the city and this blog, leaving all of the fantastic writers I’ve met and worked with through DCist, leaving all the readers and commenters with which I’ve tangled, leaving all the people that make Washington the city to which I always return. Thank you all for your patience with me and the insights into the city you’ve given me.

The site is in excellent hands. Martin, of course, will remain on the masthead, continuing to shape the site for the better as he’s done for over a year. And Sommer is one of the finest writers and editors I’ve come to know in this city; I’m excited to see how she changes and improves DCist.

That’s it for this little bit of self-indulgence. Thank you, D.C., for everything.
