FRIDAY:

>> We interviewed Josh Lefkowitz when he was in town performing at the Fringe Festival, and now he’s bringing his thoughtful/hysterical monologue, Help Wanted: A Personal Search for Meaningful Employment at the Start of the 21st Century, to the Woolly Mammoth stage. Tickets are $15, and the show runs through Oct. 8. Details and showtimes are available here.

>> Soft Complex has a debut EP, Barcelona, and it’s damn well time for them to celebrate. They’ll be at Black Cat tonight with friends Monopoli and Cedars (who have a CD of their own). $10, 9:30 p.m.

SATURDAY:

>> Whimsical disco-punk outfit Electric 6 is storming the Black Cat, with Aberdeen City and The Blue Van warming up the crowd. Expect dancing and hollering. $13, 9:30 p.m.
**UPDATE** – Aberdeen City will be hosting an afterparty at Wonderland from 12:30-3:00 a.m. after the gig. Enjoy.

>> If you still haven’t been down to H Street NE lately, today there are plenty of extra reasons to make the trip. The annual Festival on H Street will be held on H Street between 12th & 14th Streets, NE., from noon until 6 p.m. A number of music performances from all over the R&B and hip-hop spectrum are planned, along with local authors and poets presented by Washington City Paper, basketball games provided by the Wizards, carnival games, crafts and artwork booths, plus a variety of ethnic street fair food.

Stick around H Street to check out the Rock and Roll Hotel’s official Virgin Festival afterparty, which features a special DJ spot by VHS or Beta for a $10 cover.

SUNDAY:

>> Serious film fans speak about Pedro Almodóvar in hushed, reverent tones for a reason — no one else makes films like his. Not exactly what you could describe as accessible, films like Talk to Her, All About My Mother, and Law of Desire delve into the director’s preoccupations with secrecy, sexual identity, and bright, bold colore. Viva Pedro, a retrospective of his work at the AFI Silver Theater, coincides with the release of his newest film, Volver, and runs through Oct. 19.
