After the news of The Great Pumpkin Shortage and the one-month anniversary of Steve Irwin’s passing, you may need an excuse to laugh. We gots one. Washington Improv Theatre has two nights-worth of back-to-back improv comedy at the Mead Theatre Lab at Flashpoint.
Tonight’s 8 p.m. show includes two performances, one by the Daily Grind. Think Office Space on stage. In case you didn’t get enough Janet in HR at work today, Daily Grind will help you brainstorm cubicle names, complete with section, sub-section and color-coded descriptions. Brought to you by CEO Ralph Soulsucker IV, this office “orientation” will make up for the cold, meat-less BLTs in their eighth floor cafeteria. Here’s a teaser on YouTube. Also getting their funny on at 8 p.m. is onesixtyone, WIT’s founding troupe.
If your stomach doesn’t hurt too bad from the hyper-laughing, stay for the 9:30 p.m. act with WIT’s longform troupe Jackie. The six-person show will stretch out just a single line of overheard dialogue into “a series of tangential events.” One phrase, song lyric or conversation soundbite will build on the next, and as the thread thickens, “so do the surprises.” It’s the show where throwbacks rule. Also joining them is Caveat’s Juke Joint Remix, a comedy exploring life with a soundtrack.
