FRIDAY:
>> From the amount of Evites and mass emails running around inviting folks to giant group outings to see Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, we’re guessing that’s what a lot of you are doing tonight. As of now, only the 5:15 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. showings at Gallery Place still have tickets available, but the Loews Georgetown has plenty more options. Jagshemash!
>> Paging John Hodgman! Director Bill Daniel will be on hand at Provisions Library for a special screening of his film, Who Is Bozo Texino?: The Secret History of Hobo Graffiti at 7 p.m. Sixteen years in the making, the psuedo-documentary tell “the mostly-factual account of the epic quest and unlikely discovery of railroading’s most mysterious artist.” Tickets are $5-$10, on a sliding scale of what you can afford. We imagine genuine hoboes can probably talk their way in for free.
>> And don’t forget to lend your support to Shortstack and Gypsy Eyes Records, who will be playing with the Hard Tomorrows and These United States for a CD release party, kicking off at 9 p.m. at Black Cat, $10.
SATURDAY:
>> Justin Vandervolgen of !!! will be DJing at DC9 for Tease, along with DJ Denny Le Nimh. Should be a high-quality electro-dance night, complete with free admission and free Sparks before 10. $10 after 10 p.m.
>> Rorschach Theater’s new play, Monster, has been getting terrific reviews. Here’s what our critic had to say: “This play does not add up to a mere cautionary tale against morally-questionable science. Monster is most riveting for displaying the way a family can be torn apart when one of its members is just a little bit off. It’s a reality show starring an extended family that we actually want to watch: ‘Mom, There’s A Body In The Basement.'” Tickets are 2 for 1 this weekend, so plop down $20 and get yours before they’re gone. 8 p.m. Through Nov. 26.
SUNDAY:
>> Influential 1970s all-girl punk/reggae outfit The Slits are still around knocking around England and are making a special appearance at Black Cat, with D.C.’s own The Apes and Eyes of the Killer Robot. 8 p.m., $12.
>> Gomez! Dempsey! It’s the Eastern Conference Finals at RFK! The penultimate round of the MLS Cup kicks off Sunday at 4 p.m. when D.C. United faces the New England Revolution. Tickets start at $27, but don’t let the price deter you from what should be a fantastic game with a raucous atmosphere. Remember to wear black!
