Even Shadow Senator Paul Strauss had a car in the parade. And a classic one, to boot.

FRIDAY:

>> George Washington University’s surprisingly excellent improv/sketch comedy troupe, Recess, will hold their monthly midnight show tonight in the Ballroom Center . They assure fans that dress-up clothes are not necessary, “but you must have showered in the last 72 hours.” For just three bucks, let the campus legacy-holders make you laugh, and likely piss you off. They’re willing to take that risk. (Erin Zimmer)

>> There’s a little band called The Ambitions playing at Warehouse Nextdoor tonight, along with we-keep-hearing-awesome-things-about-them group Arkansas-turned-D.C. loudmouths Yell County. We mention the Ambitions first mostly because they sent us an email describing themselves thusly: “We do 60s soul but it doesn’t come out right, it’s alot harder for some reason??” And good Lord if that doesn’t sound like the greatest band of all time. Plus The Rats, it all starts at 10 p.m.

>> And yes, Joanna Newsom is sold-out. Stop asking if we have extra tickets. We don’t.

SATURDAY:

>> It’s almost like the Rock and Roll Hotel is daring us all not to show up there on Saturday night. First, from 7 to 10 p.m. there’s STYLEistics, a designer consignment clothing sale, featuring local designers like De Nada and Muss, as well as big names like Marc Jacobs and Chanel. Then stick around for DJ sets by the Brazilian Girls, which is FREE if you show up before 10 p.m.

SUNDAY:

>> By now you’ve heard Christopher O’Riley’s beautiful, classical solo piano treatments of the music of artists he loves — Radiohead, Elliott Smith, and Nick Drake. Now hear him play at the Kennedy Center, try real hard not to slit your wrists afterward, and take bets on who he’ll tackle next. Our money’s on Ben Gibbard.
