A woman was hit by a train on Metro’s Orange Line just before 10:30 this morning. The accident occurred at the Deanwood station on the inbound track. Emergency personel are on the scene, but there is no information about the condition of the victim. The Post is reporting the posibility of a suicide.
Trains are sharing one track from New Carrollton to Stadium-Armory station, creating a 10-15 minute delay in both directions of the Orange Line, according to Metro’s web site. The Deanwood station has been temporarily closed, and shuttle bus service has been set up.
This is the second accident in two weeks on Metro. Last week, two track workers were hit by a Yellow Line train. Both workers have died as a result of their injuries. Two other Metro workers have been killed in accidents in just over a year, and as a result, the National Transportation Safety Board has begun an investigation of Metro’s safety record, calling it “unacceptable”.
UPDATE: As of 1:00 pm, regular service has been restored on the Orange Line. The Post is reporting that the woman who was hit has been taken to an area hospital with what Metro believes are “non-life-threatening injuries.”
