At this point in December, people looking to hear a concert are probably only looking for a performance of Handel’s Messiah or Holiday Concerts, and we have already dealt with both of those. Since there is not much else to mention, this will be your Classical Music Agenda until the New Year. There are a few things to hear, so hang in there. We will be back on January 7.
>> The year’s final free concert in the Library of Congress series is on Monday (December 18, 8 p.m.). The Ensō Quartet will celebrate the donation of precious Stradivari instruments to the Library with a program of music by Mozart, Ginastera, and Dvořák. There is a pre-concert presentation at 6:15 p.m.
>> Opera Bel Cantanti continues its run of Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro on Monday (December 18, 7:30 p.m.) at the Embassy of Germany (abridged version), Tuesday (December 19, 7:30 p.m.) at the Embassy of Austria, and this Friday and next Friday (December 22 and 29, 7:30 p.m.) at the Randolph Road Theatre in Bethesda.
>> If you want to hear a concert to bring in the New Year, you could go to New Year’s Eve at The Kennedy Center (December 31, 8:30 p.m.). Murry Sidlin will conduct members of the National Symphony Orchestra, with soprano Arianna Zukerman and pianist Stewart Goodyear. Tickets: $50 to $90. From 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. there will be dancing, waltzes played by an orchestra and then swing, for all patrons from the evening’s performances.
