MONDAY
>> Remember the days when you couldn’t turn on the radio without hearing the Goo Goo Dolls‘ hit single “Name”? Yeah, we drink heavily to forget it, too. Well, it turns out the boys named Goo are headlining the 9:30 Club two nights in a row with Augustana. Maybe we shouldn’t be so hard on them; both nights are sold out.
>> Steven Tyler of Aerosmith fame is going to be rocking the George Washington University Lisner Auditorium along with Reps. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, and Eddie Bernice Johnson, D-Texas. Okay. It actually has something to do with a campaign to establish a U.S. Department of Peace. No word on what the department would actually do, but we’re sure George Clooney would be nominated as secretary. $25, 7:30 p.m.
TUESDAY
>> While they are mostly known for their comical take on Dante’s Inferno, the Squirrel Nut Zippers are a fantastic band — and we’ve heard they’re a great live act, as well. See for yourself when they play the Birchmere with Chapel Hill’s The Old Ceremony. $25, 7:30 p.m.
>> Paul Michel will make a stop at DC9 to support his new album Quiet State of Panic. This reminds us of our own quiet state of panic when we were stuck on the red line last week for two days in a row. We’re pretty sure Michel wasn’t responsible for the Farragut North fiasco, but we’ll keep our eyes on him anyway. 9 p.m.
>> One thing D.C. gets little credit for is that it’s a city of do-gooders. People will do crazy things for a worthy cause — in this case, rocking. Locals, Len Bias and Kathy Cahsel play the Black Cat tonight in support of the Visions in Feminism Conference, $5 backstage, 9 p.m.
>> Winter got you down? Have an enjoyable wallow at Madam’s Organ with Old Man Brown and his blues from B’more. 10 p.m.
