As Metro emerges from yesterday’s deep freeze, it’s getting mixed reviews on its transportation response. Mayor Fenty is also under the microscope for his response to the snow according to local media. But with a power outage reported to have knocked out traffic lights throughout downtown earlier today, we’re clearly not out of the woods yet.
Meanwhile, the big news at Metro is the roll out of brand spankin’ new information display screens outside of stations. Also, new Metro chief John Catoe continues to take decisive actions, but we are getting more and more worried about bus safety in light of another accident that killed two pedestrians downtown last night. Finally, the Tysons Tunnel Saga gets another fascinating plot point with a Tom Davis flip-flop.
For all you Orange Liners out there, the Cheverly, Landover and New Carrollton stations will be closed this weekend for a major track rehabilitation project. The Orange Line will operate from the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU to Deanwood stations, and Metro will provide free shuttle bus service between Deanwood and New Carrollton with stops at Cheverly and Landover to get riders around the closure.
