It’s time for another episode of Snowpocalypse! And this time, Mayor Fenty has declared a Snow Emergency. From DC.gov’s release:

In response to recent and ongoing predicted snow fall amounts, Mayor Adrian M. Fenty, along with the District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT) and the Department of Public Works (DPW) have scheduled a Snow Emergency starting at 3 pm Sunday afternoon. Forecasters are now calling for of 3-4 inches of snow possibly mixing with sleet for Sunday afternoon and into the evening.

The District is scheduled to declare a Snow Emergency starting at 3pm Sunday afternoon. At that time, all streets designated as Snow Emergency Routes must be clear of parked vehicles to allow snow plows access to curb lanes. These routes are marked with red and white signs. Failure to move a vehicle will result in the relocation of the vehicle by tow-truck and a $250 fine.

Home and business owners are reminded that they are responsible for shoveling and salting steps leading from their property, as well as sidewalks and driveways abutting their homes and businesses. Snow should be shoveled into yards and treeboxes, not back into the street.

The good news is that the snow outside DCist Headquarters right now feels like good packing snow, which means snowmen and snowball fights, which are awesome. The bad news is that there’s a good chance more of that wintry mix/sleet/freezing rain BS is on its way later tonight, making the results of this storm another potential huge pain in the rear (though Monday’s high could reach 41 degrees, which will help things get more melty). So far no closures have been announced, but that could change soon. We’ll keep you posted.
