Good morning, Washington, and good job. Having just gotten back into town yesterday after almost two weeks away, let me go ahead and say that I really like what you’ve done with the place in my absence. It’s warm, it’s beautiful, and it’s supposed to last until at least Friday.

Demonstrators Protest Fenty School Plan: A group calling themselves Friends of Fenty set up shop outside of the mayor’s home yesterday in order to protest his planned takeover of the school system, as WJLA reports. At least it was friendly: the rhetoric seems to have centered around helping Fenty to renew his commitment to democracy (by endorsing their position, naturally) — that sort of thing. But it looks like their cordialness was for naught, as Fenty says he’ll press ahead with his plan.

Snyder Loses Lawsuit: It’s admittedly not a particularly important story, but we know that a sizable portion of our audience enjoys hearing about bad things that happen to Dan Snyder, so this seems worth mentioning. WTOP brings word that the Redskins owner has just lost a lawsuit filed against him and his wife by the couple’s former nanny. Juliette Mendonca won a $44,000 judgment for unpaid overtime. With a new opening in the household roster, Snyder is likely to court one or more of the big name nannies currently available on the free agent market.

Protest Will Close Roads Near Pentagon On Saturday: NBC4 has the details. War protestors will march over Memorial Bridge to a parking lot on the North side of the Pentagon. To accomodate this a portion of Route 27 will be closed from 12:30 to 4 p.m. on the day of the protest.

Briefly Noted: New ballpark will have cherry blossom trees… Yet another bus accident (no serious injuries, thankfully)… Maryland teens arrested for hate-crime graffiti… Fight near Coolidge High leads to twelve arrests, including one parent…

This Day In DCist: One year ago we checked out the new stadium and parlayed this “blogging” thing into free beer. Two years ago we interviewed Cartel and reveled in towtruck companies’ comeuppance.
