Good morning, Washington. We hope you had as pleasant a weekend as we had, running around in that gorgeous warm sunlight and forgetting you ever complained about the weather in this city in the first place. Not even the threat of rain later this week, nor the mess of traffic on Saturday night that resulted from what was reportedly the least fun White House Correspondents’ Dinner ever, could ruin our overall improved moods. Seasonal affective disorder is officially banned. Headlines are not.

High School Senior Killed in Columbia Heights: Edwin Ventura, a senior at Bell Multicultural High School who friends say was never in any trouble, was shot and killed at the corner of Columbia Road and Sherman Avenue NW on Saturday night. While the victim doesn’t seem to have had any ties to gang activity, the style of the shooting, where masked assailants walked up and began firing, is reminiscent of the gang violence that plagued the neighborhood up to four years ago.

‘Awakening’ to Move to PG County: If you’ve ever perused the DCist Photo Pool, you’ve no doubt come across any number of photos of The Awakening, the 70 ft. statue by J. Seward Johnson, Jr. that’s been inhabiting Hains Point since 1980. A favorite spot for photographers hoping to snap some eerie captures, word has it The Awakening is soon to be on the move. The WaPo reported yesterday that Milt Peterson, the man behind the National Harbor project, plans to relocate the sculpture to the beach on the other side of the Potomac. If you read the whole story though, you’ll notice that this is maybe the least interesting tidbit of news about the future of National Harbor. We look forward to talking more about the plans for that area as they come closer to completion.
