Deep Purple, Or Shallow?: Weary of the neverending Tyson’s tunnel debate? Well, good news: there’s a new Metro tunnel above/below ground argument to endlessly obsess over. WTOP reports that the issue is now under discussion for the proposed Purple Line extension to the Metro system. As with the Tyson’s debate, the question revolves around cost, aesthetics and efficient use of land. Expect to hear much more on this.

Maryland Electricity Rate Hike Nearly Here: FOX 5 reminds us that BGE customers will be seeing up to a 50% rate hike beginning on Friday. The news station also investigated some of the alternatives that those stung by the deregulation may want to consider.

Local Opinions On Immigration Bill: The Post and WTOP both bring stories about the immigration reform legislation currently being considered by congress. WTOP’s take is generally positive, quoting local workers who express general support for the bill, largely due to their contempt for the current system. However, the Post account ends on a more pessimistic note, with some Falls Church-based laborers explaining that the proposed legislation’s fees and lack of guarantees would probably lead them to continue residing in the country illegally.
