According to an article in this week’s New York Times Dining section, about half of the days in the year are dedicated to some sort of food or drink. This month we can look forward to National Caviar Day, National Lobster Day and National Cognac Day, just to name a few.
But, until we can start lining up for free samples of sevruga caviar, lobster tails, or Hennessy, we will have to settle on celebrating National Doughnut Day – which falls on the first Friday of June – with a free ‘nut from Krispy Kreme
Unlike other recent sugary giveaways, patrons will have all day to stop by the Krispy Kreme for their choice of one doughnut.
Notice the above singular use of Krispy Kreme. That’s because D.C. proper is home to only one shop, located at 1350 Connecticut Ave on the southern end of Dupont Circle. Judging from last year’s response, peak-time lines will be long (i.e., go now).
For you more adventurous types – or those with a car – use this tool to find the other two shops in Alexandria and Rockville. If driving is necessary, don’t feel guilty over finagling two treats: one in person, and one from the drive-thru.
If you miss out on this deal, word on the street is that many of the factory stores (not Dupont) will sometimes give out a free original glazed doughnut during production. Other shops such as Fractured Prune will sometimes offer something to first timers.
