You can lead a horse to water, yada yada. Same with music. You can force a kid to sit in front of a piano for two hours a day, but unless he actually enjoys what he’s doing while he’s there, eventually the force of his will not to be there is likely to win out over yours. Of course, you can dress it up. Making the tedium of endless scales and exercises into a fun activity isn’t the easiest thing in the world, but it can be done. The approach taken in this week’s top quote might just be on the right track.
Quote of the Week
At Pizzeria Paradiso on P Street, two young, casually dressed professionals are talking over lunch, examining sheet music and discussing music education:
1st Guy: “You can’t force someone to enjoy it.”
2nd Guy: “Right, right. Go home, touch your instrument, and fall in love with it.”
After the jump, cryptically named sporting venues, paging the deli department, and riding the metro…with sexy results.
