>> Local comic book store Fantom Comics is celebrating the grand opening of their new Union Station store tonight with a party from 6 to 10:30 p.m. They’ll be serving up free pizza on the early side and the comedy stylings of the Geek Comedy Tour during the second half of the night. There will also be a trivia contest with $500 gift certificates up for grabs. The party is inside the Union Station Phoenix Movie Theatre.

>> Georgie James, Aqueduct and Roofwalkers are serving up Friday night good vibrations at Black Cat. $10, 9 p.m.

>> DJ Spinna & Bobbito Garcia’s Wonder-Full Party at Liv, celebrating the work of Stevie Wonder, starts at 10 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

SATURDAY:

>> The National Gallery of Art’s ice-skating rink opens for the winter season at 10 a.m., and they’ll be giving out free hot chocolate. $7 for adults admission, $3 for skates. Hours through March are Mondays–Thursdays, 10 a.m.–9 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m.–11 p.m., and Sundays, 11 a.m.–9 p.m.

>> D.C. native Musinah has been getting love from broken beat aficionados in the U.S. and U.K., plus was featured on Little Brother’s latest release. She’ll be at Bohemian Caverns to celebrate the release of her album, day.break. 11 p.m. Free.

>> Clap Your Hands Say Yeah’s three nights of sold out shows at the Rock and Roll Hotel kicks off tonight with Quentin Stoltzfus and Delta Spirit. Looks like plenty of tickets are on offer at Craigslist, though. 10:30 p.m.

SUNDAY:

>> The resident percussion ensemble of the University of California at San Diego, red fish blue fish, will present the world premiere of a new piece by American composer Roger Reynolds, Sanctuary, at the National Gallery of Art. The work “creates a dynamic among four percussionists, whose responsibilities to the piece include probing and revealing their own psychological make-up as they assemble sound sources in accord with specified roles.” This free concert begins with a presentation in the East Building’s auditorium, followed by the performance as it evolves in the open ground floor space of the East Building, under the iconic Calder mobile. Free, 6:30 p.m.

>> Canada’s Broken Social Scene likes to pack as many people and sounds as they can on stage. Tonight they’ll be shoulder to shoulder at the 9:30 Club for an early show presenting band co-founder Kevin Drew’s new album, Spirit If... $25, 6 p.m.

>> Things will change gears at 9:30 Club later on as Wu-Tang Clan member Ghostface Killah will bring his gift of gab to the stage. Accompanying him will be one of the greatest emcees of all time, Rakim. 10 p.m. $35.

>> The WKYS DC Go-go Awards are being held at DAR Constitution Hall and will include performances from CCB, Mambo Sauce, Chuck Brown and a lifetime achievement award for Suga Bear from Experience Unlimited (“Doing Da Butt” fame). 7 p.m., $40 tickets are still available via Ticketmaster.
