Yvette AlexanderAlan Suderman has the juiciest political story of the day with Ward 7 Councilmember Yvette Alexander’s decision to fire her communications director Andre Johnson because, according to Alexander, Johnson lied to her about participating in the Marion Barry reality show, “Mayor For Life.” Johnson plays a sizable role in the show’s pilot episode — and we can certainly understand Alexander being upset about the fact that Johnson allegedly lied to her about taping the show under the guise of being Barry’s employee while he was working for her.
But from what she was saying to Suderman about the situation, it appears as if Alexander might be using the incident as a platform to take out some of her general frustrations regarding the cultural bankruptcy of reality programming.
“I can’t believe elected officials … are involved in this. I am truly shocked,” she says. Adding that she wants to give her colleagues a message: “Please stick to the council. Hollywood is not in the stars for you.”
Also:
“And the acting was terrible, if I might add,” says Alexander.
Oh, and:
“I just found it very distasteful,” she says. “I think reality TV … seems to be for people who hit rock bottom.”
Hey, just because we enjoy the occasional dash of Top Chef every now and then, it doesn’t mean we have a problem, okay Councilmember?
