I suppose it’s only fair that since we highlighted Mayor Vince Gray’s appearance on CNN yesterday, we should also share his interview on The O’Reilly Factor last night. Gray handled himself pretty well — at least as well as any prominent liberal politician can possibly handle themselves on the show — as Bill O’Reilly, who called D.C. “kind of like a city-state they used to have in Greece,” prodded him with questions about statehood and the congressional budget deal.
The key point in the interview came when O’Reilly asked Gray whether he “really believed that somebody who is pro-life — who thinks abortion is murder — should [have] their tax dollars [used] for abortion?”
“I don’t think it’s about abortion, it’s about the right of the people of the District of Columbia to make decisions for ourselves,” Gray responded.
After that, the segment broke down into Gray and O’Reilly arguing over vouchers, O’Reilly declaring that he didn’t want federal dollars spent on abortion (well, duh) and jokes about jail. From the standpoint of the District, Gray’s portrayal probably could have been a whole lot worse.
