Ah, the school lunch trade. It’s often a student’s first real introduction into the manner in which the world really works: how, at the end of the day, life’s usually just one crushing letdown after another. One unlucky student at Frederick High School in Maryland can certainly attest to having recently learned that hard lesson. WAMU reports that a 16-year-old at the school went to the hospital earlier this week after eating a shared cupcake that was believed to have been laced with an illegal substance, likely marijuana.

As for the crushing letdown part of the story? Despite the Frederick County Sheriff’s department decision to write the whole thing off as a bunch of high schoolers acting like, you know, a bunch of high schoolers, Frederick High Principal Denise Fargo has decreed that students are no longer allowed to bring any food to the school to share, a move that is sure to only increase the influence of the black market on homemade food to previously unheard of levels.
