Washington Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth didn’t appear in court this morning. But no worries, Haynesworth’s lawyer, former Council candidate and White House party crasher counsel A. Scott Bolden, certainly did a fine job of maintaining that his client — accused of rubbing “his fingers in circles around [a W Hotel waitress’] left nipple” after she said no on February 13 — was a victim.
“It did not happen,” attorney A. Scott Bolden said, following a brief court appearance.
Bolden appeared at a morning arraignment on behalf of Haynesworth, who waived his right to appear. He entered a plea of not guilty for his client and rejected a plea deal on his behalf.
“I think it’s been about money and about him being a target, and really him being unfairly treated by everybody,” Bolden said. “He’s a big target for the government, he’s a big target for you, the media, he’s a big target for the W Hotel employees.”
Haynesworth, you’ll recall, told police after the incident that he “doesn’t even like little black girls,” and was unfairly targeted by the waitress at the hotel because she “was just upset I have a white girlfriend” and she “was trying to get with” him.
Bolden also told WTOP’s Neal Augenstein that “we have witnesses.” Asked why Haynesworth didn’t appear in court to declare his innocence, Bolden said it was “because he has a lawyer…he can do it July 12.” Haynesworth’s trial is slated to begin on July 11; Bolden said today he’s expecting a quick trial, though holes are already being poked in the story provided by at least one of Haynesworth’s backers.
