The Metropolitan Police Department has identified the man that was shot and killed during a barricade situation in Mount Pleasant yesterday. Jean E. Louis, a 55-year-old Washington resident, was shot and killed by police after stabbing an officer outside his Irving Street home. Louis had locked himself inside a bathroom for several hours before police moved in, at which point Louis attempted another lunge at officers, leading them to shoot.

The department is currently performing an internal investigation into the incident; the situation feels eerily similar to previous deadly interactions between District police and mentally distressed individuals.
