Good morning, Washington. Threats of crippling heat next week compel us to enjoy the weekend, which kicks off with a stunning Saturday. Mostly sunny, barely sticky, and without breaking 90, it shouldn’t be difficult to enjoy the day. If you need a little help, our Weekend Picks are an acceptable crutch.

Friday night was the Tune Inn fundraiser at an American Legion in Southeast D.C., where friends and residents opened their wallets, indulged in drink, and offered a reassuring display of community. The local pub was forced to close after a fire broke out inside its kitchen last month, and the benefit aimed to raise money for staff members who worked at the restaurant. While much of our trusted press were carousing, some local news did break when Councilmember Tommy Wells (D-Ward 6) tweeted that streetcar czar Scott Kubly is leaving the DDOT.
