Police Shot Man Who Died: Two D.C. police officers shot a 23-year-old man
near the intersection of 17th Street and Bladensburg Road NE this morning who may have been involved in a gun battle with another person — it was not immediately clear whether the man’s fatal wounds were inflicted by the officers or by someone else.

Audit Reveals Improper Spending: An audit by D.C. Office of the Inspector General shows that more than $1.5 million was spent on office furniture, utility expenses, roof replacement and leasing of portable toilets out of a special D.C. government fund that is supposed to be used for fixing streets, alleys and curbs.

Man Charged in Columbia Heights Crime Rampage: A man who was already in jail on an unrelated murder charge was charged this week with a string of crimes in the Columbia Heights neighborhood dating to 2004 — including four killings, a violent robbery and an attack in which he shot five times at a security officer. Police allege Azariah Israel went on a “crime rampage” and told the Post they are relieved to have him off the street.
